About the Item

An impressive and unusually shaped Japanese lacquered box, bearing the gold crests of the prestigious Tachibana samurai clan. This elegant piece dates to the late Edo to early Meiji period and was part of a rare and extensive dining set associated with the Tachibana household. In the Meiji era, the Tachibana family converted their estate into an elite hotel, and it is likely this box was used to serve honored guests. The design reflects a refined blend of traditional Japanese aesthetics with subtle influences of early Western (Art Deco) geometry. The deep black lacquer finish contrasts beautifully with the hand-applied gold family crests, or mon, creating a sophisticated and historically rich object.
