About the Item

A fine pair antique Chinese Qing cloisonne standing Kylin Dragon figures with fine enamel detailing dating from the latter 19th century or possibly earlier. The standing figures have elements of exposed brass work and are inset with colored and black enamels and stand four-square with ferocious dragon heads with jaws wide open, horns, whiskers and large piercing eyes in black on white enamels. They have a lion tail bushed and raised on their backs with brass cloven hooves. The bodies are decorated in scrolling red and green enamels against a black enamel ground with small scroll and patterned elements in brass wire outline. The tails are similarly decorated. The figures are typically not marked. Provenance: Acquired from the UK art market. In good original condition with wear associated with age and use and with unpolished brass metal elements.

A very fine and stylish antique oriental, Chinese attributed, cloisonne double gourd vase dating from the latter 19th century. The vase stands on a flat brass base with a wide round base, pinched waist and narrow round upper section with a funnel style top with a flat metal rim. The body of the vase is decorated with a mixture of flowering shrubs dominated with flowering hawthorn incorporating a butterfly to one side. The continuous scenes are decorated in colored enamels against a bright turquoise ground and set between formal borders around the foot, the pinched centre and top of the vase.
