About the Item

An impressive monumental hand-carved Chinese tiger sculpted from a single block of richly colored spinach green nephrite jade. The sculpture displays the bold style characteristic of high-quality Chinese jade carving during the mid to late twentieth century. Flowing incised striping and carved details accentuate the animal's powerful anatomy, while the exceptional polish reveals the stone's natural variations in tone, ranging from deep forest green to olive with lighter veining and subtle mineral inclusions. The partially natural rock base preserves the character of the original jade boulder, providing an appealing contrast to the highly finished surfaces. At two feet in height and weighing approximately one hundred pounds, this is a substantial statement piece equally suited for display in a refined residential interior, executive office, gallery, or curated collection of Asian decorative arts. Large-scale nephrite carvings of this quality are increasingly difficult to source, particularly examples carved from a single massive block of stone. The combination of impressive scale, quality material, and confident craftsmanship makes this tiger a striking example of twentieth-century Chinese decorative sculpture. Dimensions: 14"W x 28"D x 24"H Please note: This piece weighs 100+ lbs and is top/front heavy. It is not easy to move and, like most tigers, is best admired from afar.
