About the Item

Monumental Vintage Thai Hand-Carved Wood Kinnari Wall Panel, Red and Gold. Monumental vintage Thai hand-carved wood wall panel measuring nearly eight feet square. Finished in richly aged red and gold tones, this impressive Southeast Asian decorative panel features an intricate relief composition of celestial dancers and musicians traditionally identified as Kinnari figures. In Thai and Southeast Asian mythology, the Kinnari—also spelled Kinnaree—is a graceful celestial being portrayed as half-woman and half-bird. Celebrated for her beauty, dance, music and poetry, she is traditionally associated with feminine grace and artistic accomplishment. Hand-carved in Thailand during the mid-20th century, the panel reflects the elaborate decorative traditions associated with Thai temple and ceremonial architecture. Its monumental scale, sculptural depth and time-worn red-and-gold patina make it an exceptional piece of architectural wall art for a large residence, entry hall, hotel, restaurant or collector’s interior. The panel is constructed in eight narrow vertical wood sections, approximately 11.5 inches wide each, allowing for easier transportation and professional installation. Overall dimensions: 97 in. H × 94 in. W × 1.75 in. D. Good vintage condition with surface wear, rubbing, fading and localized losses consistent with age and use. These variations contribute to the panel’s authentic character and patina. Please review the detailed photographs. Professional installation is recommended.
