About the Item

This late-19th-century Uzbek man’s chapan is woven in a vivid lavender silk ground with an elaborate metal-thread brocade featuring large stylized floral and palmette motifs. The scale and complexity of the gold and rose-toned pattern reflect the luxurious textiles produced for the urban elites of Central Asia during this period. The robe is fully lined in cotton, which provides structure and a smooth interior finish. The garment shows light wear appropriate to its age but remains in excellent overall condition, with no restorations or modifications. Dimensions: Length (Neck to Hem): 124 cm (53.5 in) Width (Sleeve to Sleeve): 160 cm (63 in) The mounting service — which involves hand-stitching the robe onto a linen support for preservation — will be provided at no additional cost. Final framing can be arranged by the buyer with a local framer according to their preferred style and materials. This option is recommended for long-term preservation and display, though the robe remains fully wearable if preferred.
