About the Item

Superb textile by the French house Pierre Frey, here stretched over canvas and transformed into a true decorative wall artwork. This poetic and dreamlike design is a creation by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, accompanied by the following original text: “Beyond the visible dwell the angels. They share the sky with the birds; clouds are their cotton trees. They hide there at dawn, and the stars ignite when their hearts brush against twilight. This design evokes a great classic of French style: toile de Jouy. Blue for dawn, and gold for dusk.” Inspired by traditional toile de Jouy, the motif depicts angels, birds, and constellations in a delicate and narrative composition. It is hand-embroidered with blue cotton threads on an ecru linen ground, offering subtle contrast and remarkable finesse of execution. Presented here stretched on a wooden frame, this textile becomes a textile artwork, ready to hang, ideal for: a refined or poetic interior a bedroom, living room, or cabinet of curiosities a reinterpreted classical or contemporary décor A rare decorative piece at the crossroads of textile art, French design, and contemporary artistic creation, fully embodying the craftsmanship and imaginative universe of the Pierre Frey house.
