About the Item

Decorative cast iron architectural pediment salvaged from a late nineteenth or early twentieth century commercial or institutional building. The piece features a symmetrical crest with scrolling foliate ornament, rosettes, and molded classical detailing, retaining traces of its original green and cream painted finish beneath decades of weathering. Housed in a custom-built wooden shipping crate for protection, the fragment represents the richly ornamented cast iron facades and cornice work commonly produced during the Victorian era for storefronts, banks, civic buildings, and other prominent structures. Surface oxidation, rust, accumulated grime, and scattered abrasions are present throughout, consistent with prolonged exterior exposure. The reverse retains its original cast surface with a visible foundry casting seam and expected oxidation. No major cracks or structural repairs observed.
