About the Item

A rare carved Carrara marble armorial crest from the façade of Arengo’s Palace, a 19th century mansion in Gibraltar (see photos), built by Juan Arengo and removed during demolition works in the 1970s. This large scale architectural crest bears the Arengo family coat of arms, depicting an eagle with wings spread atop a diagonal stripe crest with two stars, between two cornucopias and a scrolling acanthus top. An impressive architectural antique, this imposing heraldic crest is steeped in British history, making a magnificent feature of garden or building façade, or even a statement of grandeur above a large mantelpiece. Depth varies 10 – 20 cm
