About the Item

Crafted in the late 19th century, this antique wrought iron gate combines crisp architectural lines with restrained decorative detailing. Spear-top finials, hand-forged scrollwork, and a gently arched crest lend the piece a refined silhouette, while the original Stewart Iron Works Co. plaque speaks to its American provenance. Founded in Cincinnati, Ohio, Stewart Iron Works became one of the country's most respected manufacturers of ornamental ironwork, supplying gates, fences, and architectural elements to homes, estates, and public buildings throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The naturally weathered surface has developed a rich iron patina with areas of oxidation that highlight its age without compromising its sturdy construction. Found in Ohio, mid-to-late 19th-century wrought iron construction. Original Stewart Iron Works Co., Cincinnati, Ohio maker's plaque remains intact. Original latch hardware present. Beautiful aged iron patina with expected oxidation and surface wear consistent with age and outdoor use. Structurally sound with age-related irregularities typical of hand-forged ironwork. Ready for decorative installation or continued architectural use. Wear is consistent with age and use outdoors. Measures approximately 42” W x 47” H x 1.25” D.
