About the Item

A wonderfully characterful antique English cast iron cat doorstop, dating to the early 20th century and retaining much of its original painted surface. The life-size seated cat is charmingly modelled with an expressive smiling face, upright ears and a distinctive blue bow tie. Substantial cast-iron construction gives the piece an impressive weight of approximately 8.9 kg, making it both a practical doorstop and an appealing example of English vernacular decorative ironwork. Particularly attractive is the untouched aged surface, with areas of naturally worn black paint revealing the iron beneath and creating an authentic patina developed through decades of use. Traces of the original blue decoration remain to the bow and eyes. The piece bears a “KA” foundry mark, although the manufacturer has not been identified. A charming and increasingly difficult-to-find decorative object, particularly appealing to collectors of antique cast iron, folk art and feline-related objects.
