About the Item

An important double-leaf door with asymmetrical panels made of poplar wood, a superb example of rustic cabinetmaking and interior architecture from the first half of the 19th century. The asymmetry of the door panels serves as an effective way to optimize daily use compared to having the door fully open. The structure is composed of horizontal poplar planks laid side by side; poplar is a wood that has long been prized for its stability and warm amber color, which is enhanced here by a beautiful, deep, dark patina rich in natural knots and grain. The surface is marked by a dense, geometric pattern of hand-forged iron studs. The nails have large, protruding heads that serve a dual purpose: structurally, they securely fasten the front panel to the back posts; and decoratively, they give the piece a solid and elegant appearance.
