About the Item

A very fine quality period Louis Philippe fireplace in Belgian Black marble. The shaped jambs carved lion's feet to base, surmounted by carved scrolls with acanthus leaves to front and scrolls above. The frieze with fluting throughout, with moulded shelf above. French, circa 1840. An unusual design in an increasingly rare marble. Measures: Shelf width: 1672 mm 65 ?" Overall height: 1071 mm 42 ?" Opening height: 765 mm 30 ?" Opening width: 1156 mm 45 ½" Depth of shelf: 381 mm 15" Overall Plinths: 1645 mm 64 ¾".
