About the Item

Found on a farm in Normandy, France, this large scale mid nineteenth century painted cast iron pump features a spout detailed with an acanthus leaf motif. Above and below the spout are symmetrical flowers with stems and leaves and a sphere at the top is detailed with shells and scrolling leaves. The base of the pump is additionally detailed with shells. The arm of the pump is finished with a scrolling handle. Vestiges of blue and white paint coat the piece boasting its patina from the past, but a new coat of paint can be added if desired. The pump stands at 59 inches in height with a 12.5 inch diameter and is 19 inches wide with the handle. This charming piece would be a great addition to a garden and could be set up with running water to convert into a fountain. c. 1860.
