A delightful, whimsical and rare cast iron Japanese garden lantern in the shape of an owl, made in Japan c. 1950.
With pointed ears, a charming face and a fantastic aged surface, it is the perfect addition to any garden, although it could equally be used indoors. The beautiful red patina gives a dramatic russet glow to the candlelight within, which then shines through the perforated form of the owl to very atmospheric effect. The owl can either stand independently, or can also be hung using the loop above the head. It is very solid with a generous weight to withstand the elements if placed outside.
