About the Item

The walnut column is a piece from the Empire period, handmade in Italy. The piece is a true piece of furniture, as the frame conceals a door that opens to reveal a compartment entirely lined with dark red Varese paper, with a shelf also lined with paper. The hinged door closes with a knob that doubles as a key and the mechanism are working. This piece of furniture is particularly appealing when used as a stand to showcase a well-proportioned sculpture: it could be a modern sculpture, creating a contrasting style, or it could be a harmonious complement to an antique sculpture.
