About the Item

A striking pair of 18th-century Italian architectural half-columns crafted in carved wood and decorated with traces of original polychrome and gilt finishes. Rising to an impressive 84.5 inches in height, the columns feature a cylindrical form embellished with a repeating Moorish-inspired lattice pattern highlighted in gold against a weathered pale blue-gray ground. Stylized gilt stars punctuate the design, creating a richly textured surface that reflects the decorative exuberance of the Italian Baroque period. Constructed as engaged columns with flat backs, these pieces were originally intended to be mounted against a wall or integrated into an architectural setting.
