About the Item

Five late 20th century handsomely weathered midcentury style stoneware planters in an unusual angular style echoing earlier 1960s and 70s brutalist architecture. One of three groups we are selling, these reclaimed planters were made by Inscape Gardens for ‘Avant Garden’: Oxford Gallery’s biennial exhibition of garden art and craft in the summer of 1991 held at the Barbican Centre, London. There were originally 30 pieces in the set for the exhibition. We have 13 in total, each signed to the inside ‘I.G.’ (Inscape Gardens), dated ‘May 91’ and marked with edition out of 30. Varying in size, each is of a matching angular design creating a graduated set that would look striking styled together in a tiered garden or modern courtyard. Largest: H42 x W44 x D52 cm Medium: H40 x W37 x D43 cm Smallest: H34 x W31 x D37 cm
