About the Item

Antique primitive large Swedish trough style dough bowl, c. 1850. Hand carved from a single piece of wood, this robust, elongated bowl is designed for kneading and proofing dough. For centuries, these have been staples throughout Scandinavian countries and other parts of Europe characterized by functional, sturdy handles and a shallow basin. The thick-bodied wood retains its natural, unfinished state with a beautifully developed patina that is smooth in texture. Its shapely, sculpted form is a testament to its hand-crafted nature and movement of the wood from years of use while a simple design accentuates the interesting carved details. A unique statement piece for just about any interior style. Great on a console, sideboard or kitchen island filled with produce.
