About the Item

Beautiful large handwoven basket dating from the Mid-Century Modern period, most likely from the 1950s or 1960s. The basket is distinguished by its particularly elaborate openwork construction. Multiple concentric bands of woven rattan form an almost architectural pattern, while the center features an attractive interlaced knot-like motif. The slightly flared circular form and strongly defined wrapped rim give the piece a sculptural presence. Its warm natural honey-colored surface and highly decorative weaving make it suitable not only as a functional basket but also as a substantial decorative object. It could be used as a fruit basket, centerpiece, textile basket or simply displayed on a large table, console or sideboard. The handwoven construction shows subtle irregularities characteristic of traditional craftsmanship and gives the piece considerable visual depth when viewed from above.
