About the Item

This Murano glass bowl in sommerso glass by Archimede Seguso was produced in Italy during the 1960s and exemplifies the technical refinement of mid-century Venetian glassmaking. Formed in a balanced, symmetrical profile with a gently articulated rim, the piece allows its layered construction and optical qualities to define its visual presence. The bowl is executed in the sommerso technique, with transparent turquoise glass encasing a pale yellow core, all contained within a clear outer layer. Suspended throughout is a controlled bullicante bubble pattern, interspersed with fine silver leaf inclusions. This combination creates a nuanced visual effect: the silver reads as cool and silvery from the exterior, while appearing warmer and more golden when viewed through the yellow interior. The interplay of colour, trapped air bubbles, and metallic inclusions introduces depth and luminosity, while the substantial weight and clarity of the glass demonstrate the precision associated with Seguso’s work of the period. Both sculptural and functional, the bowl is suited for use as a centrepiece or as part of a curated collection of Murano glass. The piece remains in very good vintage condition, with no chips or cracks observed. Minor surface wear is present, consistent with age and careful use. Measures: 15 cm W x 12 cm D x 7.5 cm H (5.9 in W x 4.7 in D x 3 in H).

The collaboration with the painter and artist Dino Martens already showed the first successes at the XXIII Biennale di Venezia. Over the years, more daring creations followed, which, as with Pop Art, were clearly far ahead of their time. Later, the influence of artists like Gino Poli and Enrico Potz...
