About the Item

A wonderful, original Mid-Century Modern Madoura pottery ashtray/bowl by renowned Spanish artist Pablo Picasso titled "Oiseau à la huppe (Bird with tuft)". The piece features a hand painted image of a mischievous looking bird. The bowl, made from white earthenware ceramic with black oxide and white glaze, has Picasso's "Edition Picasso Madoura" signature/marking on the underside/base as well as his official "Madoura Plein Feu/Edition Picasso" incised stamps partially hidden under the glaze. It is from an edition size of 500 and was conceived in 1952. Catalogue Raisonné de l'Oeuvre Céramique de Picasso de 1947 à 1971 by Alain Ramié (A.R. 173). Special and engaging. This piece would be a great addition and be sure and stand out in any Picasso ceramics or Mid-Century Modern pottery collection or make for a wonderful eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in any setting.
