About the Item

Ravenna bowl by Sven Palmquist for Orrefors, Sweden 1950s A heavy bowl of the Ravenna series designed by Sven Palmquist for Orrefors Sweden in the 1950s. The squarish bowl has round undulating edges and is made in blue glass decorated with sandblasted square pattern and brown-red glass powder, overlayed with clear glass. Signed with company lable and 50 years aniversary inscription on the base. Maybe donated to employees of the company. An authentic piece of Midcentury Modern Scandinavian glass design. Sven Palmqvist (1906-1984) was a Swedish artglass designer working for Orrefors from 1928 till 1971. Among his several designs the Kraka Series (1944), the Ravenna Series (1948) and the Fuga Series (1954) are the most succsessfuls. The Fuga series was awarded with a Grand Prix at the Milan Trienale in 1957. Johan Wilhelm Johansson is the father of the famous Norwegian art glass designer icon, Willy Johansson (1921 - 1993). Johan Wilhelm Johansson was the son of glass cutter Joacim Johansson, who came to Hadeland from Limmared in Sweden. The family had originally come from Bohemia to Sweden in the early 19th century.
