About the Item

A strong iconic Art Deco design of R.Lalique, Calypso bowl created in 1932 in white glass. Lalique has often designed mermaids and mythological subjects. This illustration of his favorites themes is strongly Art Deco inspired by the greek mythologie. The mermaids have rounded figures turning all around the large bowl. The details are finely moulded as mostly with the Lalique manufacturing. The Art Deco period has seen Lalique largest plates and dishes and was probably one of the best periods of the Lalique company. Progress had been made in the technics of colors and opalescent molded glass. The subjects were perfectly matching the shapes of the pieces creating impressive ensembles . More mermaids can be found in René Lalique's works such as the Ondine bowl and dish, the Mermaid mascot , the Trépied Mermaid , the Naiades statuettes and the massive Naiades vase .
