About the Item

The practice of sgraffito is on full display on this plate made by ceramic artist Wayne L Bates. After spending decades teaching at various arts institutions, Bates became inspired by Native American artistry and studied their ceramics techniques. This ceramic piece is sprayed with slip finish and carved with handmade tools to reveal the white of the porcelain clay body beneath. Dimensions: 16” diameter x 2.5” height. Condition: Good original condition.
