About the Item

Hand made ceramic dish decorated with women faces medallions , one of a kind signed by Albert Thiry (1932-2009). Albert Thiry was a renowned French ceramist of the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Nice, he moved with his family to Vallauris in 1943, where he spent much of his school holidays in pottery workshops, developing his skills from an early age. In 1961, he founded his own workshop with his wife, Pyot. Their production, mainly made from Vallauris clay, is distinguished by the use of chamotte and by innovative exploration of pictorial techniques such as engobes and glazes. While their functional pieces are often characterized by simple decoration, their sculptures—sometimes large in scale—demonstrate a remarkable level of artistic mastery.
