About the Item

An ashtray or vide poche made in Italy between the 50s and 60s in green onyx. The marble has been carefully sculpted into a hexagonal geometric shape, smoothed, ground and carved in the center to be able to hold small jewels that you may remove in the evening to wear again in the morning or, as in the full Italian style of the time, as an ashtray on a coffee table. During the mid-20th century in fact, in Italy, the production of furniture components and decorative objects for the home in marble, minerals or semi-precious stones was widespread. Travertine, Onyx, and various types of marble, even imported, were worked by skilled Italian craftsmen to create wonderful items. This vide poche dates back to that period, it is in good vintage condition and free of breaks. The grinding work that runs along the sides of the object is splendid but above all the concentric burnt brown and sienna veins that alternate in the perfect center of the carving.
