About the Item

An exceptional French Art Deco cigarette box, dating to approximately 1930, crafted in silver with elegant black lacquer decoration accented by gilt details. This refined piece perfectly embodies the sophistication and geometric elegance that define the Art Deco movement, combining luxurious materials with clean, balanced proportions. The interior retains its original mercury-sealed lining, a characteristic feature found in high-quality cigarette boxes of the period, designed to help preserve the freshness of tobacco products. The box is marked with the initials "J.D.", leading to a possible attribution to the celebrated French Art Deco artist and master lacquerer Jean Dunand (1877–1942). While the attribution cannot be definitively confirmed, the quality of the craftsmanship, the refined lacquer work, and the overall design are strongly reminiscent of Dunand's distinctive aesthetic and technical mastery. The exterior displays a striking contrast between polished silver and deep black lacquer, enhanced with subtle gilt decoration that creates a timeless and sophisticated appearance. The proportions are elegant, making it equally suitable as a functional object or as a decorative statement piece within an Art Deco collection. The box remains in very good vintage condition, exhibiting only light wear and minor surface marks consistent with age and careful use. It has no restorations, preserving its originality and authenticity. A highly decorative and collectible object that reflects the luxury, craftsmanship, and modernist spirit of French Art Deco desig
