This is an antique calligrapher's pen box. An Oriental, lacquered papier-mâché quill case in Chinoiserie taste, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1890. Fascinating pen case with a pleasingly decorative lid scene Displays a desirable aged patina and in lightly time-worn order Deep black lacquer applied upon papier-mâché Gilt coloured lacquer adds an attractive hue Lid adorned with a quartet of figures and background detail Opens to a three division interior, with a pen division and smaller nib section This is a delightful antique calligrapher's pen box, with a charming Oriental figural scene to the lid, and a usefully divided interior. Delivered ready to enjoy.
