About the Item

Boulle stationery box by J. C. Vickery and retailed by Leuchars, dating to the late nineteenth century during the Victorian period, circa 1880. The box is of rectangular form with a domed lid and is extensively decorated with inlaid brass and red tortoiseshell boulle work across the exterior. The body is finished with delicate brass edging and bears a monogram to the centre of the lid. When opened, the interior reveals an olive green lined fitted interior with several partitions designed for storing letters and smaller documents. To the front lip is the makers signature for J. C. Vickery. 179. 181. 183. Regent St.W and the underside of the box is signed Leuchars & Sons, 36 & 39 Piccadilly, London & 2 Rue de la Paix, Paris who retailed the stationery box.

FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING The Coromandel Jewellery Box by Leuchars is a mid nineteenth century example dating to circa 1860 veneered in richly figured Coromandel wood with sterling silver mounts. Of compact rectangular form, the Jewellery Box is mounted with sterling silver corner straps, matching barrel escutcheon and an engraved silver plaque to the lid bearing the crest of the Pauncefort-Duncombe family above the Latin motto “DEO REGI PATRIAE” translating as “For God, King and Country”. The crest and motto are associated with Sir Philip Duncombe Pauncefort-Duncombe, 1st Baronet (1818–1890) of Great Brickhill Manor, Buckinghamshire.
