Sterling silver vinaigrette, by Edward Smith, Birmingham 1884, the cover, sides and base engraved with scrolled foliate decoration, parcel gilt interior and pierced and engraved grille featuring scrolled leaves and a pair of love birds, monogram 'EHB' to the cover, hallmarked to the underside of cover and base, 3.5cm length, 2.1cm width, 13.5g total weight This is an exquisite antique Victorian sterling silver vinaigrette with hallmarks for Birmingham 1884 and the makers mark of the silversmith Edward Smith. The vinaigrette is of rectangular form with the cover, sides and base engraved with scrolled foliate decoration. It has a parcel gilt interior and a pierced and engraved grille featuring scrolled leaves and a pair of love birds. It bears the monogram 'EHB' to the cover. There is no mistaking its unique quality and design, which is certain to add a special something to your silver collection. Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation. Used both by men and women they were generally carried whilst travelling, to give a pleasant aroma as the streets or travelling companions could often smell. The inside of the silver boxes was gilded to prevent corrosion by the vinegar. Our reference: A5188

This is a lovely antique Victorian silver plated casket bearing the makers mark of the renowned silversmiths, Walker and Hall, Circa 1840 in date. The square casket freatures an epic mythological scene of the four seasons with eight winged cherubs on the lid. Each side features the four seasons: spring features a bull and a goddess, summer has a lion and a goddess, autumn has a scorpion and a goddess and winter has a cherub and goddess. The interior of the box features its original quilted buttoned silk upholstery. Add some elegance to your home with this lovely casket. Dr John Wright had conducted important experiments on electroplating, Walker secured the royalty of electroplating for Sheffield. The business was joined by Henry Hall and became in 1853 Walker & Hall. The factory was at Howard Street, Sheffield, while showrooms were opened in 45 Holborn Viaduct, London. Branches were opened in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Cardiff, Belfast, Hull, Bristol, Melbourne and Adelaide (Australia), Cape Town (South Africa). This is a highly decorative antique Victorian silver plated folding biscuit box, the base bearing the makers' mark of the renowned silversmiths Fenton Brothers of Sheffield, England, circa 1890 in date and bearing the Staniforth's Patent mark as well as the registration number 3549. It has a beautifully shaped body sitting in a cast frame with remarkably chased branch supports and the original interior features elegant hand-pierced dividers.
