About the Item

This beautiful light yellow opaline cylindrical crystal box is dated to France in the 1920's. It is composed of a flat-topped lid that is joined by a decorative bronze mount to the cylindrical body of the box. The mount itself has a hand-made small repeating geometric pattern throughout the entire piece. The hinged lid opens smoothly. The opaline crystal has a consistent color throughout and light wear consistent with the passing of time, the inside of the box has the same coloring and finish as the outside. The edges around the piece are slightly rounded out and the surface both on the outside and the inside is highly polished. The piece itself turns a very bright yellow when under UV light. That and the use of uranium to color yellow and green glass pieces in the late 19th and early 20th centuries allows us to categorize this glass as both opaline and with uranium.
