About the Item

Vintage Kholui hand painted papier mâché box with hinged lid - fine quality - featuring a Russian folklore painting of the Snow Maiden to the raised oval section on the top of the rectangular box - the painting set against a black lacquer background with gilded borders and sides - high gloss finish - red lacquer interior - signed and inscribed along the lower edge of the central painting (as photographed) - gilded bird and Kholui (in Cyrillic) to the base - Russia - circa 1980. Excellent vintage condition - all original - minor rubbing to the gilded decoration - scratches and minor wear to the base - no loss - no damage - no repairs - signs of age and use. Size/Dimensions - Medium - 4 3/8" Wide x 6" High x 1 1/2" Deep.
