A striking mid-century modern decorative box by the renowned Los Castillo workshop of Taxco, Mexico. This finely crafted rectangular box features a warm patinated brass body topped with an exceptional mixed-stone mosaic lid. #5236 The lid is composed of crushed and inlaid natural stones—likely including malachite, azurite, and other semi-precious materials—creating a richly textured, abstract landscape in vibrant shades of green, blue, and earth tones. Set within this mosaic are stylized etched brass giraffe figures, lending a whimsical yet sophisticated visual narrative characteristic of Los Castillo’s artistic approach. The interior reveals a brass lid with a softly aged surface and a fitted wooden base, demonstrating the workshop’s attention to both form and function. The underside bears the impressed “Los Castillo Taxco” mark, confirming its authenticity. An excellent example of Mexican modernist design, this piece reflects the innovative mixed-media techniques that made Los Castillo one of Taxco’s most celebrated ateliers in the mid-20th century.
