Traditionally the case would have contained a small copy of the Koran or other protective religious verses or written incantations were sealed inside to protect the wearer. In square shape, silvered metal repousse talisman case which stored a miniature Koran or talisman considered to hold special protective powers. This ornate box is a Quran case or carrier and would have originally been worn by someone to protect from the evil eye.
