About the Item

Rhino Sculpture Candelabra, handcrafted in cast bronze with brown patina with small Rhino, Acacia tree and leaf motif. I model these decorative features in wax by hand before casting, making every candelabra a true original as no mold is made. Using the lost wax method, I sculpt, cast, chase, and finish each piece myself, blending natural motifs with refined craftsmanship. The result is a distinctive, sculptural candelabra that stands out as a statement piece - both functional and artistic. Patinas may vary. All candelabras are unique and made to order by hand. Candles not provided. Similar bronze single and double candle sticks in different sizes & motifs on request. Cost on application. Can also be made in pairs. Functional art: Combining art, design and functionality, all furniture and lighting is exclusively sculpted, cast, chased and finished by myself. Using the lost wax method of bronzing, I cast each piece in my foundry and it is finished individually by hand. Thus each candle stick is one-of-a-kind and patinas may vary. I was thrilled to be invited to show this piece in the 2024 Homo Faber exhibition themed 'The Journey of Life' - a celebration of contemporary craftsmanship in Venice curated by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship. Presenting the work of hundreds of international master artisans, rising stars and designers, this edition celebrates a human life through the lens of craft, taking visitors on an immersive journey. For this third edition, visitors were taken on a journey through a human life, exploring life’s standout moments and everyday simplicities through the lens of craftsmanship. Meaningful milestones were celebrated with special objects handcrafted by skilled artisans according to specific techniques. From childhood to travel, romance to dreams, Homo Faber 2024 showcased the craftsmanship behind the objects that accompany life’s most precious moments. I am a self-taught South African artist whose work is inspired by Africa’s wildlife, landscapes, and people. My years as a safari guide gave me an intimate connection to the bush — a place that taught me everything I know about shape, form, and movement. You can’t sculpt what you don’t feel, and every moment spent observing wildlife offers a lesson in balance, grace, and presence. I am drawn to bronze — an ancient material with a living surface that changes, deepens, and gains character over time, much like the landscapes and creatures that inspire me. Each patina adds its own mood and individuality, ensuring every piece carries its own quiet story. My work ranges from bird, wildlife, figurative, abstract to African sculpture and bespoke sculptural furniture and lighting. Each piece is entirely handcrafted — sculpted, cast, chased, and patinated by me in my own foundry using the traditional lost-wax method. Every creation reflects Africa’s beauty, strength, and spirit — enduring in material and authentic in character.
