About the Item

Pair of candelabras in bronze and gilded and Marblewhite with three arms of lights in the form of a bouquet of flowers. The shaft in the shape of vase is decorated with two handles ending in acanthus leaves and a garland of vine branches on both sides of vase. The base with a beaded ring rests on a pedestal made of bronze and Marblewith a double level of interlacing decoration. It has four spinning top feet in bronze. One of the vases is signed on the base Eug. Hazart Paris. Louis XVI style, late 19th century. Eugène Hazart was a highly regarded Parisian bronzemaker of his time. He was a member of the Réunion des fabricants de bronze from 1839 and of the commission on the ownership of models. He made bronzes copying the old style, in the Gothic and Renaissance taste, and was known for his reproductions of 18th century works. In 1884, he appears in the suppliers' book of Pannier Frères, who runs the famous house "A L'Escalier de Cristal", famous throughout the 19th century.

An important pair of Louis XVI style patinated and gilt-bronze four-light candelabra after the model by François Rémond, now in the Wallace collection, London. French, circa 1830. Stamped to one bronze ring ‘RG’. Each candelabra has a central stem in the form of a torch en flambeau with three scrolling acanthus reeded branches terminating in sphinx heads and palm-leaf candleholders. The arms seemingly tied to the stem piece by knotted gilt-bronze cords ending in tassels. The candelabra are issued from patinated bronze ovoid vases with fluted stems and square section porphyry bases. Each vase is mounted with gilt-bronze female heads and foliate swags and encircled by a putti friezes. The handles of each vase are in the form of patinated bronze satyr’s masks.
