Details Pair of Candle Holders Commissioned for Del Cambio Restaurant Signed Plexiglas and metal Italy, c.1973 Height 8.5 cm (3.3 in) Width 7.5 cm (3 in) Depth 4.5 cm (1.8 in) This rare pair of candle holders was commissioned for Del Cambio, one of Italy's most celebrated historic restaurants. Executed in Plexiglas and metal, the geometric composition reflects the refined material experimentation and architectural restraint that characterised Italian design during the early 1970s. The substantial transparent Plexiglas forms are paired with polished metal inserts, creating a striking interplay of light, reflection and colour. Their sculptural geometry allows the materials to become the defining feature of the design, while the transparency of the Plexiglas creates an ever-changing relationship with the surrounding environment. Commissioned specifically for Del Cambio and signed, the candle holders embody the meeting of hospitality, architecture and collectible design. Both functional and sculptural, they possess a refined material presence that extends beyond their practical purpose, making them equally compelling as decorative objects within an interior.
