About the Item

Large Candle Holder Sculpture by Maku Ceramic Dimensions: Ø 28 x H 38.1 cm Materials: Ceramic, Stoneware, Clay Maku Ceramic is an Istanbul-based ceramic studio founded by artist Aslı Özen. What began as a personal exploration of clay gradually evolved into an independent design practice during the pandemic, first from a small home studio and later from a dedicated workspace in Istanbul. Each Maku Ceramic piece is shaped by hand in small quantities, using stoneware clay and traditional hand-building techniques. Inspired by natural formations, erosion, volcanic surfaces, and the quiet imperfections found in nature, the work combines sculptural forms with raw textures and organic silhouettes. Rather than pursuing perfect repetition, Maku Ceramic celebrates the individuality of each object, allowing traces of the making process to remain visible. The name “Maku” comes from Marla and Kuki, Aslı’s cats, who were part of the studio’s earliest days. Today, the brand continues to create functional and sculptural objects designed to bring character, texture, and a sense of calm into contemporary interiors.
