About the Item

A compelling pair of handcrafted Brutalist wall candle sconces executed in welded steel, embodying the raw sculptural aesthetic that defined the American Studio Craft movement of the 1970s. Constructed from hand-cut steel plate and tubular steel, each sconce features a boldly tapered silhouette with organically irregular edges that celebrate the material's handmade character. The minimalist geometric form is softened by decades of naturally developed oxidation, resulting in a richly variegated rust patina with warm earth tones and subtle surface texture. Purposefully restrained in design, the sconces rely on proportion, craftsmanship, and material honesty to create a striking architectural presence. Each sconce incorporates a welded candle cup with an integrated spike designed to secure taper candles, while the concealed wall mounting bracket allows the forms to appear as sculptural objects floating against the wall. Whether installed individually or as a pair, they create a dramatic interplay of light, shadow, and texture. Strongly evocative of the Brutalist and Studio Craft movements, these unsigned works possess the individuality and expressive fabrication associated with one-of-a-kind artisan metalwork. Their understated yet commanding presence makes them equally suitable for Brutalist, Wabi-Sabi, Organic Modern, Contemporary, Rustic Modern, and Minimalist interiors. An exceptional decorative statement for a fireplace, entry hall, dining room, or gallery wall.
