About the Item

This is a single English Candlestick, hand cast and seemed, dating to the English George 11nd period, Circa 1835 or possibly earlier in the 18th Century. This candlestick has all the key features of an early 18th C piece: * Warm golden tone due to a higher copper content than later 19thC examples * Visible casting seams - see images, worn in places due to years of polishing. * Slight irregularities in shape and thickness, especially around the base and stem. * Heavy weight of about 370 gram, due to solid brass construction. * Marks on the underside of the base from the mould, indicating traditional sand casting. It has an integral bobeche above a stem with two knops which lead to a four lobed base. The decoration on the stem is simple and restrained, compared to sticks later in the century which normally have more elaborate decoration with more rings and knops. We have not repolished this candlestick. Overall a fine antique English candlestick, with no damage and dating to the early 18thC .
