About the Item

French, pair of silvered bronze Louis XV style candlesticks. Typical of the Rocaille style, also known as Baroque or Rococo style which reached its zenith in the 18th century, during the reign of Louis XV, and particularly favored by the King's celebrated mistress, la Marquise de Pompadour. The intricate bases are decorated with garlands and scrolls, and gadroons swirl around the stem, and adorn the detachable nozzle (bobèche). As they are made of silvered bronze, they have a weight and substance of a superior quality to the more commonly seen silvered metal candlestick. This beautiful pair will add a touch of French elegance and the spirit of 18th century France to your home.
