Pair of French Empire Revival Bronze Candlesticks France, 19th Century Elegant pair of French patinated and gilt bronze candlesticks executed in the Empire Revival taste. Each features a fluted tapering shaft rising from a finely cast tripod base supported by lion's paw feet, with acanthus and palmette ornament throughout. The urn-form candle cups are decorated with classical foliate relief and accented by gilt-bronze collars and rims, while scalloped drip pans provide both decorative and functional refinement. The restrained architectural form, combined with rich classical ornamentation, reflects the enduring influence of the First Empire style on French decorative arts during the nineteenth century. Finely cast and chased, these candlesticks exhibit the sophisticated craftsmanship associated with French bronze work of the period.
