About the Item

A sculptural pair of American Arts & Crafts bronze candlesticks produced by Tiffany Studios, New York, circa 1905–1915. Model number 1201, cast in heavy bronze and finished with an original chemically applied green-brown patina. Each example is supported by four elongated legs terminating in stylized paw feet, resting on a reverse quatrefoil base beneath a wide drip pan and cup-form candle socket. The attenuated, organic form reflects the naturalistic aesthetic favored by Louis Comfort Tiffany and bridges late Art Nouveau fluidity with the emerging American Arts & Crafts movement. This model is sometimes referred to by collectors as the “cat’s paw” form due to the character of the feet. Both candlesticks retain their original surfaces and show no evidence of polishing or later refinishing. The undersides bear the impressed mark “Tiffany Studios New York 1201.” Surface wear is minor and consistent with age and careful handling. Tiffany Studios decorative bronzes were produced in considerably smaller numbers than the firm’s lamps and are increasingly sought after by collectors assembling complete bronze desk sets and period interiors. A refined and sculptural early 20th-century American design suitable for both use and display.
