About the Item

Pair of 1800s Gilt Bronze Empire Candlesticks, set of two French Empire-style ormolu chests or burners, dating from the first half of the 19th century. These ancient French vessels have a dual use, both decorative and as elegant candle holders. In fact, by turning the reversible domed lid upside down, each container is transformed in a candlestick. Made in the early decades of the 19th century, they present an urn shape typical of French fireplace candlesticks, rest on a cylindrical pedestal finely chiseled with floral and geometric motifs and a square base. Mercury-gilt bronze, or ormolu, gives an alternating, combination of matte and shiny finishes characteristic of the period. The upper bowl is decorated with bacellature and vine shoots and leaves, while the lid is chiseled with concentric beading terminated with a pinecone knob. They come from a private collection and are in good condition consistent with the era. The crystal colacera saucer is an added modern element. We ship from Italy. To export an art object that is more than 50 years old, a government export license, known as a BEAUTIFUL ARTS license, must be applied for. the issuance of such a license takes about 2 to 3 weeks, which must be added to the order processing time.
