About the Item

An attractive late 19th century miniature Grandfather longcase clock sometimes referred to as a Grandmother clock. The arched hood surmounted by a broken swan-neck pediment with carved roundels and urn finials, centred by a floral and scroll-carved cresting. The brass dial with silvered chapter ring, Roman and Arabic numeral. The arch enclosing a subsidiary seconds dial with the Latin motto “Tempus Fugit” (“Time Flies”) within an engraved roundel. The spandrels cast with scrolling foliage and masks. The case of richly figured mahogany with fluted columns, an arched trunk door of finely figured timber, and a moulded base on ogee bracket feet, all displaying the fine craftsmanship and classical proportions. The eight-day movement striking on a bell. Circa 1890 English Fully serviced and in working order. Keys present.

A very fine late 19th century French Belle Epoque mounted bronze Dòre flame mahogany Cartel wall clock. The clock features a circular white enamel dial, which is inscribed with both Roman Numerals and Arabic Numbers. beautifully incised gilt hands and convex glass inscribed "Planchon A Paris". Circa 1880 French Mathieu Planchon apprenticed with his father, served several years with other clockmakers including Robert-Houdin and then went into business for himself eventually opening his shop at the Palais Royal in 1890.
