Mid 19th C, France, a highly decorative antique mantel clock enclosed under a glass dome. The clock is made of alabaster, a material often used in neoclassical and empire-style clocks for its elegant and luxurious appearance. The clock is rectangular in shape, with a solid, block-like base supported by small rounded feet. The top features an urn-shaped finial, adding a decorative flourish that complements the neoclassical style. The front is adorned with carved garlands and floral motifs. These decorations are finely detailed, indicating skilled craftsmanship. The area just above the dial includes a row of small, carved rosettes or beading. The dial is circular and made of gilt bronze, which contrasts beautifully with the white marble body. The dial features black Roman numerals and delicately crafted hands, suggesting careful attention to detail. The center of the dial has intricate engraving, typical of high-quality clocks from this period. The chapter ring (the circular band that carries the numerals) has a delicately engraved pattern along its outer edge, which adds a refined texture and visual interest. An attractive vintage 20th c., crystal table clock signed "Daum - France" on the crystal. The quartz clock mechanism also has a stylized Daum signature located below 12 o'clock. At 10' square, the clock has a strong visual presence. History And Meaning Of Anemones: It was believed that the flower sprang from the blood of the slain Adonis, who was a lover of the goddess Aphrodite. As such, anemones were often seen as a symbol of love and passion. In Victorian England, anemones were given as gifts to express love and anticipation. Founded in 1878, Daum Nancy crystal is still recognized for its manufacturing expertise. It owes its fame to master glassmaker Antonin Daum.
