About the Item

A striking Italian antique desk inkstand from the 19th Century inlaid with Florentine Pietra Dura The rectangular stand is framed in black and inset with a geometric mosaic of richly coloured specimen marbles siena marble, giallo antico, and other brecciated and variegated semi-precious specimen stones. It is raised on four rounded bun feet and fitted with two substantial square crystal-glass inkwells, each with a brass collar and faceted glass cover. The centre is fitted with a decorative hardstone-mounted taper holder, designed to accommodate a small candle or wax taper. Similar traditional inkstands combined twin inkwells with a central candle or taper holder, while the long recessed tray at the front was intended to hold a dip pen horizontally. The contrasting black surround, colourful stonework, clear crystal and warm brass mounts create an especially decorative desk accessory. An impressive addition to a traditional library, study, writing desk or collector’s interior. Details Inkstand with two removable inkwells and a dip pen. (dip pen not exact match to the one illustrated) The candle, sealing wax, paperwork and other desk accessories shown in selected photographs are styling props and are not included.
