About the Item

Charming Ink Well/Inkstand in the shape of man's head, painted white metal and patinated wood. Made in England during the 19th century. A simply charming inkstand consists of a a painted wood-turned base upon which is mounted a white metal inkwell in the form a man's head, probably an English sailor. The face has quite a jovial expression, complete with expressive eyes, detailed hair and sideburns, along with a hat in the painted white metal. The hat serves as the cap for the inkstand, inside which is the container for ink in pewter. Wear consistent with age and use.
