About the Item

A finely cast Italian Renaissance Revival bronze inkwell dating from the late 19th century. The circular inkwell is supported by three winged figures raised on claw feet, while the lid is surmounted by a striking model of the Florentine Marzocco lion standing upright and holding a shield — an iconic symbol of civic Florence. The deep naturally aged patina accentuates the sculptural modelling and gives the bronze a particularly rich surface. Originally intended as a writing accessory, the piece now serves equally well as a decorative object for: – a desk – a library – a collector’s cabinet – a Grand Tour interior A small but highly characterful object with strong historical appeal. Dimensions Height: 16 cm Diameter: 8 cm Very good condition with age-appropriate patina.

Large Antique Terracotta Vase Jardinière with Medusa Handle, Italy 17th Century

Large Antique Terracotta Vase Jardinière with Medusa Handle, Italy 17th Century

Located in Firenze, IT

Large antique Italian terracotta urn / vase / jardinière / planter, Louis XIV period (late 17th century - early 18th century) monumental sculptural piece designed for both indoor and outdoor use. This rare architectural terracotta urn-vase or jardinière is shaped as an amphora and it is a powerful example of Italian decorative arts from the early 1700s, combining the exuberance of late 17th century Louis XIV and Baroque design with an early classical refinement that anticipates the Louis XVI style. It rises from a strong octagonal base and develops into a richly modelled body with deep fluting and classical relief decoration. The surface is enriched with grotesque-inspired ornamentation, geometric motifs, egg and dart patterns, rosettes, and classical friezes, creating a layered visual rhythm typical of high-end antique garden sculpture and architectural terracotta. The most striking feature of this monumental garden urn...
