About the Item

A wonderful and rare large figural inkwell, beautifully executed in the form of an Owl with fine detail. The hinged head lifts to reveal a fitted ink chamber which looks to be a clock part that the manufacturer has used in the same workshop signed " Made in Britain and France Manufacturer of the British United Clock Company ". This company was formed in Birmingham, England in 1885 and closed in 1909; this piece would have been an additional product made by this company. The handsome Owl retains it's two stunning large glass eyes and he sits on a naturalistic wooden branch. Dating to circa.1890, Victorian in era, the piece stands an impressive 8 3/4" tall, the branch measuring 9 1/4" wide and the depth measuring approximately 4". Excellent condition.
